Thailand’s national language is the most commonly spoken tongue of the Kra-Dai language family of south-east Asia. It’s unique and beautiful script is consonant based with diacritical marks to indicate vowel sounds. The script was formalised in 1283 by King Ramkhamhaeng the Great. Today Thai has around 70 million speakers and is officially recognised in four countries.
